QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

What is the warranty on my PowerCab?

All Uncontained Sound PowerCabs are covered by a limited warranty.  In a nutshell, the warranty states that if the PowerCab has not be abused in any way, then the electronics is covered for 5 years and everything else is covered for 1 year.

I'm going to be touring. What happens if something goes wrong with my PowerCab?

We recommend that you either carry a second PowerCab or spare modules (Power Entry and Amplifier) and we can provide you with instructions as to how to replace them. The replacement of a module is very easy and takes about 30 minutes and the only required tool is a #2 Phillips-head screwdriver.

I'm going to be touring overseas, can I use my PowerCab there?

Yes, PowerCabs have been designed for operation at 100V - 120V or 220V - 240V and 50Hz or 60 Hz, however, the voltage selector on the Power Entry Module has to be set correctly before it is plugged in or the PowerCab may be damaged.  Please verify the power standards for the country you are visiting and then consult the owner’s manual for instructions as to how to set your PowerCab correctly.

Why are PowerCabs bigger and heavier than other company’s cabinets?

In designing our line of high powered guitar and bass amplifiers we wanted to make one clear distinction between our company and everyone else, we will not sacrifice anything when it comes to sound in order to save a little money.  So our PowerCabs are the size and shape that they are so as to best compliment the speakers that are installed in them and the instruments that will be played through them.

Why do PowerCabs cost more?

When you design something that is truly a professional product, and you say that you will not make a single sacrifice, and you build it entirely in the United States, it costs more!  We wanted to make something that is truly a cut above the rest and after many outstanding reviews we are confident that we have.

Why are PowerCabs solid state and not tube?

  1. Clarity - even though the color that tubes add is great, it is not true to the tone of your instrument.
  2. Power - without making serious sonic sacrifices you will never get these sort of high powers from a tube amplifier.
  3. Flexibility - you can add whatever colors you want to the front end of these systems to get any kind of tone you desire and the solid state circuitry will stay true to your sound.

Why do Uncontained Sound PowerCabs have such a unique sound, and why is this better?

Uncontained Sound PowerCabs were designed with clarity as one of the most important factors in mind.  We spent months selecting the electrical and mechanical components to best reproduce the sound of your instrument without coloring or distorting it in any way.  So for the first time you are truly hearing the sound and tone of your instrument and hopefully it is a pleasant introduction.  Now, this is not to say that you are stuck with this tone, at this point you can color it anyway you want.  If you like the sound of tubes then adding a tube front end is a very effective way of getting that really powerful growl you are looking for and the Damage Control Womanizer or Demonizer are great units, or if you like the added effects and flexibility of a Line 6 POD type unit then that may be a good front end for you.

What makes PowerCabs more reliable?

Uncontained Sound PowerCabs are built with a modular approach, so that if a module fails it can be replaced very quickly, with little effort and barely any electronic understanding, by simply unscrewing the faulty module and replacing it with a new one.  In most cases each speaker has its own dedicated power amplifier thereby providing redundancy so that in most cases the rest of the PowerCab will continue to operate undisturbed. We have also used nothing but professional grade components in our PowerCabs so that year after year your sound will ring true.

I'm going to be touring. How can I protect my gear?

The best way to protect your equipment is to mount it in a road-ready case. Check your local music store or go on-line to find the one that's right for you. If you are going to be doing your own loading/unloading and want a more cost-effective option, you can purchase PowerCab covers directly from Uncontained Sound.

What do I do to get more power/volume?

Simply add another PowerCab.  With Uncontained Sound PowerCabs all you have to do is add more PowerCabs and daisy-chain them together with either regular 1/4" to 1/4" cables or if you are running the cabs in stereo a TRS (stereo) 1/4" to 1/4" cable is required.

I want to store my PowerCab for an extended period of time. What do I need to know?

Our PowerCabs are able to handle extremes in temperatures quite well, so there's no real need to be concerned. Just make sure that you let the speakers return to room temperature before using the PowerCab.

When I connect my pre-amplifier to the PowerCab, or I daisy-chain PowerCab to PowerCab, do I ever have to worry about impedance or phase issues?

No, all you ever have to do is connect the pre-amplifier or effects module to the PowerCab with a normal 1/4" to 1/4" cable and from PowerCab to PowerCab with a normal 1/4" to 1/4" cable.  Since the cabs all have the power amplifiers installed inside, the impedance and phase issues are already taken care of inside the PowerCabs.

Your specs say that your 10" PowerCab have lower frequency bass response than the 15" PowerCab. If that's true, why even offer the larger speakers?

Each speaker size has its own unique characteristics.  Some musicians prefer the sound of 15" speakers, and even though we have our own opinion on what sounds best, we prefer to leave the choice to the player.

I love the tone of my bass PowerCab (BP410H) but would prefer little or no high frequency content at all, how do I achieve this.

We have provided a knob on the power entry module that is just for this purpose.  This knob is to adjust the horn levels, and can be turned down completely if necessary. Since we have designed a completely bi-amped system, the horns can be adjusted from all the way out to whatever level is required, and as it is introduced all content that is 3.5Khz and above will appear in the mix.

I replaced one of the speakers in my PowerCab and now it sounds very thin and weak. What did I do wrong?

You may have reversed the speaker wires. Switch the two wires and test the PowerCab.  Chances are this will fix your problem.

How do I tell if I've got a blown driver?

This should never happen with an Uncontained Sound PowerCab since the power amps are in the PowerCab and perfectly matched to the drivers.  But, a blown driver can cause distortion or can make the PowerCabs sound very weak and thin. You can also check visually for creases or tears in the speaker cone.

I lost my owner's manual. Can I get another one?

You can download any of our manuals from our web site. They're all in Adobe Acrobat (pdf) format, and you can download the Adobe Acrobat Reader for free from www.adobe.com.

There is a small toggle switch on the power entry module, what is this used for?

This switch is designed to select the input type, it selects between Mono, Balanced and Stereo, so you should position this according to the type of output your guitar, pre-amplifier, or effects module has.

Where do I send my PowerCab if I need it repaired?

First you need to call the factory at (425) 605-8560 to discuss your problem and determine the best solution.  We will then direct you as to how to solve the problem or provide you with instructions on how to get your PowerCab repaired.
